Between 22 and 29 August 2024, Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat will visit 17 different towns and settlements in South Greenland. We do this because we wish to meet citizens, understand their local conditions, and listen to their opinions and challenges regarding healthy oceans and sustainable fishing and hunting.

The listening tour to Uummannaq Fjord will consist of a series of consultation meetings in Uummannaq, Ikerasak, Saattut, Ukkusissat, Niaqornat and Qaarsut. Just as on the listening tour to South Greenland in September 2023, ONKN will invite citizens, fisheries organizations and other actors to informal dialogues. The themes at the meetings will cover ONKN’s focus areas, which are:

  • Healthy oceans
  • Sustainable use of marine living resources

The dialogue will be adapted to local industries and areas of interest, and all participants will have the opportunity to take part in local competitions. There will also be a vote on work topics to create a basis for comparison for different parts of the country.

Over the next few years, ONKN is planning future consultation meetings in other parts of the country. ONKN will use the contributions from these meetings to reflect on and take into account future recommendations to the decision-makers and our further work.

On this listening tour, ONKN will be based in Uummannaq, but sail daily to visit settlements and conduct listening tours. Soon a timetable will be shared so that citizens can see when we will arrive at each settlement.
