ONKN received the good news on 7 August 2024 and will therefore be able to participate in the 46th Annual Meeting of NAFO on 23-27 September in Halifax, Canada. The Greenlandic environmental organization works to increase its influence both nationally and internationally. As an observer, ONKN ensures speaking time and the opportunity to participate in working groups under NAFO for the next 5 years.
This pleases the executive director of ONKN, Jenseeraq Poulsen, who sees the new status as an opportunity to contribute to the dialogue on sustainable fisheries. “Sustainable management is essential to ensure sufficient resources for the future so that local communities can persist,” he concludes.
