Mission

In Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat our mission is to build and disseminate knowledge about the marine environment and coastal areas in collaboration with Greenlandic society.

Through a community-centred approach Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat elevates local perspectives and conservation priorities.

Our value base

Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat works to promote and secure future generations’ access to and continue to harvest from the living resources in the arctic part of the globe, thus continuing to maintain a unique way of life that the ancestors have done for many generations.

Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat adheres to the UN’s principles of sustainability, with particular emphasis on SDG No. 14: Life in the sea. Greenland, like other countries in the Arctic and other parts of the globe, is deeply dependent on a healthy sea, which is emphasized by the fact that 90 percent of the country’s export income comes from the sale of fish products.

Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat does this by getting involved in projects, locally, nationally, and internationally, that benefit the environment in Greenland and the outside world. In dialogue with the population, Oceans North Kalaallit Nunaat focuses on partnerships around projects, with particular focus on the principle of sustainability, including in the management of living resources and on a healthy marine environment.

The organization recognizes science-based advice and decisions regarding the utilization of living resources.
