The Central Arctic Ocean is for most of the year, covered in sea ice. But that is changing. Scientists now predict that this ocean could be ice-free in summer as early as 2035.

As the ice disappears, powerful industries like shipping, oil and gas, and deep-sea mining are preparing to enter these fragile ecosystems. This threatens not only wildlife, but the health of our oceans and communities that depend on them.
