The Central Arctic Ocean is for most of the year, covered in sea ice. But that is changing. Scientists now predict that this ocean could be ice-free in summer as early as 2035.
For Greenland, these changes are not just headlines—they are happening in our backyard. As the ice disappears, powerful industries like shipping, oil and gas, and deep-sea mining are preparing to enter these fragile ecosystems. This threatens not only wildlife, but the health of our oceans and communities that depend on them.
Protecting the Central Arctic Ocean is more than an international obligation—it is a vital priority for Greenland and future generations.
Watch the animation to learn more about why this ocean matters—and why it must be protected.
